Abstract

Environmental literacy, characterised by students’ awareness to protect and preserve the environment, can be improved through improving students’ character under Pancasila values. This study aims to analyse the effect of student character project learning under Pancasila values on students’ environmental literacy so that it can foster awareness and concern for the environment. Data collection in this study was carried out by distributing questionnaire instruments, observation and data analysis using linear regression hypothesis testing, one-sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, Pearson product-moment linearity test and determination test with R Square. The subjects of this study were ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri 38 Medan, totalling 31 samples with a simple random sampling approach from 330 research populations. The results showed that student character improvement project learning under Pancasila values had a significant positive effect on student’ environmental literacy. Each increase in one indicator in project learning increased students’ environmental literacy by 33%. The results of the R-Square test show that the influence of student character improvement project learning on students’ environmental literacy is 15%, with the remainder being caused by other factors, namely student participation in environmental activities and the role of students’ parents in implementing an environmentally friendly lifestyle.
